Last week my local animal rescue centre, Hilbrae Rescue Kennels in Telford, celebrated its 25th Anniversary of taking in Telford's strays. 25 years of taking in abandoned dogs and helping to find them new homes - that's quite an achievement and they are rightly very proud and BBC Radio Shropshire spent the day celebrating with them on air. Then on Sunday I took Baby Belle to the local Dogs Trust centre down the road in Shrewsbury, where I adopted her from last November, for their annual Summer Fun Day. Baby Belle had a great time meeting hundreds of dogs of all shapes and sizes (including a giant yellow one which had a human inside which she was very scared of *woops*). Several of the Dogs Trust staff recognised Baby Belle and they were very pleased to see that she now looks much happier and healthier than when they first took her in. It was absolutely wonderful to see so many people visiting the centre and many dogs found new homes during the day from the Dogs Trust and from the other local kennels who were displaying there.
This weekend has really made me think about just how many dogs are given new lives and new homes, especially after abandonment or poor treatment and how many of our lives have been changed by adopting these dogs - I know mine has! So for this weeks photo competition I want to see photos of the adopted dogs who have changed your lives for the better.
Tweet us a photo of your adopted dog and tell us their name and where you adopted them from and include the hashtag #bestdogwalksuk before 9pm on Wednesday 9th July 2014. After 9pm we will choose our favourite dog to win some Best Dog Walks UK goodies and a big bag of treats.
Good luck with your entries and if you have space in your heart and home for a new family member then please think about adopting from your local rescue centre.
